A few candid pics from the Critique

So many wonderful new creations for the Olive Oil/Wine/Sake/Beer Re-Design by each of you. Lots of creativity and conceptual thinking going on in this project and I couldn't be more happy for those of you who really did outdo yourselves in this annual packaging design assignment.  There are more images of your bottles coming soon.
As always if you want me to take down any images just let me know.

The Daily Share Project: Deadlines Changing again....for the better

Just wanted to let you know that the deadlines have changed somewhat for The Daily Share project with HLN.  Now, you will present your ideas to the President of CNN HLN at CNN Center on Monday December 15th.  It was bumped back because he is traveling and cannot be at the previously scheduled critique.  This is great news for you and your teams because it gives you more time to digest what the CNN HLN team will tell you this coming Wednesday at 2:30.  It's imperative that you have your concepts realized both in terms of speaking about them and also in presenting some kernel of an idea to them visually. Each team will present 6 concepts for franchises. The more you invest now the more they will buy into your concepts....

What you and your team will be doing on Wednesday is called "The Pitch" and that is when you give them a surefire idea that they can't do without. Make it your best idea and the rest will be simply creating further information for those ideas.

They may choose all 6 of your ideas or only a few.  Strive for all 6 to be chosen!

ALSO,
Fantastic job in creating and presenting your Re-design bottle/packaging project!
I'm so glad that Matthew Suber, Justin Godbey and Bobbi Sweeney were there to listen and see you present your work. Some of the work truly was incredible and was some of the best I've ever seen. No kidding!

Great Job!

Color Comps

The rubdown transfers from Color Comps is in route to my house. I'll make sure I get them to 468 like we talked about sometime later today. (after 6pm)  Take your time and again, let them be at room temperature when you use them. Don't be in a hurry.

Cut around the area you want to rubdown. Clean the area you are going to put them on.
Line them up correctly. Even tape the down around the edges and then letter by letter begin to
rub them down with a burnisher or something that has a dull but sharp edge. Once it's down,
use the waxy side of the paper they come with and just place that over the rubdown and rub over it again. The waxy surface will seal the transfer to the bottle/area you wish.  Try not to scratch it afterwards. good luck everyone.

Invited Critique Guests: Justin Godbey and Matthew Suber

I wanted to let you know that I have invited Justin Godbey and Matthew Suber to your critique on Wednesday. I think it's always a good idea to get your work in front of professionals who can lend some words of wisdom to your design and process.  Both guest are alumni of our program and I'm so happy they will be with all of us on Wednesday.

Justin, whom many of you might have had in your 3000 level classes, is currently lead designer at CNN International. He has also worked at Hothead Studios. He and his wife, Shauna (also an alumni of our program) are about to visited by the Stork.

Congratulations Evan!

Congratulations Evan on your terrific illustrations that won an Honorable Mention for the 2015 College of Arts & Sciences Dean's Art Award!  The catalog was created by Bobbi Sweeney who is a senior in the graphic design program.  Evans work will hang in the Dean's Office throughout the next year which is a great reminder to those in the College of how talented our students are in the Graphic Design Program.
