You should have identified at least 3 concepts to discuss.
Once you have your decision and begin your alphabet then below is what you will do with those imaginative and creative alphabets:
PART TWO:
Creating a Print Advertisement for the Typeface/Font.
Each of you will create a 12x18 mounted advertisement (the format is up to each of you. It can be a large one page vertical advertisement OR a double-page spread (horizontally) that might appear in a design magazine/annual. Try and get your entire alphabet on one page.
Now, the main idea is to Advertise and Sell your one-of-a-kind ILLUSTRATIVE Typeface to the public for use. This can be done in various ways such as:
1.You can create a "situation" for the typeface to be a part (funny, serious,tongue-n-cheek, spiritual, etc.)
2. Or you can use all or part or pieces of the typeface to create a "buzz" for your illustrative typeface,
3. Or you can "tease" the typeface you've created by unveiling some of the concept,
4. Or you can show the entire typeface in some capacity on the page (do you want to show all of it?) There are many ways to "sell" your original typeface and that is an integral part of this assignment.
So how do you sell it? (You've created your own Frankenstein what do you do with him?) Be clever. An Advertisement is how you gain notoriety for your work. It's a visual pitch.
SPECS:
-Needs to be 12x18 in scale. (It can have a border or not.)
-Needs to use the House Industry logo in some capacity as if they are the company who is endorsing, selling and advertising your typeface. (Please check out their past Advertisements to see how they've done this. Some of them are on your course blog. Also take a look at Veer or Chank for further ideas on advertisements.)
www.veer.com OR www.chank.com (http://www.flickr.com/photos/chankdiesel/)
-Needs to be Mounted.
-Needs to have the creator of the typeface on it someplace. (That would be your name. aka "Designed especially for House Industries by Katie Welch" or "Fresh from the design studio of typography aficionado Katie Welch"..... or something thereabouts.)
-Needs to have several lines or a paragraph of Text in your Advertisement. (ie. "A brand new typeface for House Industries created by the designer who...." or "Coming in 2015 a new typeface that will cure the common cold" or some tag line that indicates to it's purchaser something about why they need to buy this from House Industries.
"Hot off the press"
PART THREE:
Application of Illustrative Typeface: The Event Poster.
You've created the Typeface and now that you've promoted it to the public....
Now, you need to demonstrate how someone might use in an "event" poster. It's application of all that you've worked on the past few weeks.
1. What will it visually look like in an actual Design?
2. How would the public use your typeface in an actual theatrical, musical, social event?
(ie. A Fun-Run through Virginia Highlands or a Band Announcement at The Roxy or an AIGA event at GSU, a Walk along the Appalachian Trail, or a design for new a new clothing line at Target or something at Zoo Atlanta or Some Six Flags over Georgia Halloween Event or a special children's event at The Georgia Aquarium or some evening event at Botanical Gardens at Piedmont Park or a Comic Book event at The World Congress Center a fishing event at Lake Lanier or some athletic event in Centennial Park or anything you can imagine that would put your Illustrative Design to work visually. I'm thinking your typeface would be the headline or name of the event or something therein. Then you would use another secondary typeface to give the specifics for the event.
3. It will be sponsored by Target so their logo should be used in your overall design someplace on your poster.
If you tie your event into another facility like the Aquarium, the Zoo or another facility you should also use their official logo. Make this as real as possible. Where, When, How Much, Times, etc should all be on your design.
It's an Event Poster. Let people know what it is and where it is and when to show up and even how much it costs.
Give them details and sell the event using your Illustrative Alphabet.
SPECS: 12x18 Vertical only.
